Council Considers a Community Vision

Town Council and management staff participated in a strategic planning session on February 12, 2018.  Many great ideas and opportunities were shared as council considered initiatives to pursue over the upcoming council term.  Many strategic goals were considered, such as completing the 54th Street access and improved communications.

Providing community vision and planning for success is a prime leadership exercise.  The process was appreciated by Council and staff.  Councillor Len Phillips stated that “It was great to have the chance to dream” about possibilities for the community.  Director of Corporate Services, Donna Anderson felt that the timing of the strategic planning session was good since priorities could be linked to the 2018 budget.  CAO, Dean Krause indicated that it was great to get a sense of Council’s strategic priorities to focus on during the upcoming term.

Council members hold a shared determination for progress.  Mayor Tammy Burke expressed her optimism that this Council can achieve goals: “This is a Council of change” she stated.  Other Council members expressed similar sentiments.

Municipal consultants from SAGE Analytics Inc. facilitated the one-day strategic planning session.  Next steps include compiling the ideas, comments and shared vision into a new strategic plan for the community.  SAGE president, Shari-Anne Doolaege commented on the synergy among Council members.  She described Rocky’s current situation as the “perfect storm” where there is strong political will to improve the town and a dedicated staff compliment to implement council’s direction.  All this within the beautiful Rocky Mountain gateway in a community that already boasts many amenities.

Input from community members is always welcome and can be provided to the town office at any time.  Council plans to revisit and update the strategic plan each year.
