OUTSTANDING CITIZENS HONOURED AT 75TH AWARDS BANQUET

Town of Rocky Mountain House Mayor Tammy Burke presented Mayor’s Recognition Awards on Friday, March 15, in conjunction with the Rocky and District Chamber of Commerce 75th annual awards banquet. Each year, the Town of Rocky Mountain House recognizes deserving individuals who have made a significant contribution to or enhanced the image of the Town.

This year, Mayor Burke was proud to recognize three individuals.

Mayor’s Recognition Award for Athletics: Tyler Larsen

Tyler Larsen, 16, is a speedskater with the Rocky Mountain House Speed Skating Club. This winter, in his second time competing at the Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games, he brought home four medals: one in every race in which he competed.

“Tyler’s keep-calm attitude and aptitude for trying anything once has brought him success on the ice. He is a great ambassador for our Town as he travels to meets across the province,” said Mayor Burke. “All of Rocky Mountain House can be proud of this young athlete.”

Since its very humble beginnings in 2016, Jillian Lawton has been at the helm of the Compassionate Care Hospice Society Hospice, working to educate the community and bring quality, comfortable and accessible end-of-life care to Rocky Mountain House.

“As the Compassionate Care Hospice Society established itself over the past three years, Jillian has continuously praised the community for supporting the endeavor and acknowledged the team effort behind the society. Now it’s time for us to return the compliment,” said Mayor Burke. “Thank you, Jillian, for your many selfless hours and tireless campaign. Thank you for rallying volunteers and bringing compassionate hospice care to Rocky Mountain House.”

Mayor Burke also congratulated the businesses, Clearwater County century farms and rural beautification award-winners who were honoured on Friday night.

“These are just a few of the many great people that make up this fine Town and County,” said Mayor Burke. “We need to celebrate all of our successes and build on them”
