Community Profile
Welcome from the Mayor
One word that could describe Rocky Mountain House is “opportunity.” This multicultural community has that small town feel with big city amenities. Not only have residents realized that the traffic jams, lineups, and other annoyances that come with larger centres do not happen here, they are embracing the friendly, vibrant feel of the community.

Rocky Mountain House has an active and helpful welcoming committee with the mission to assist all newcomers to the area in feeling welcome and becoming engaged and included in our community. Despite its size, Rocky Mountain House is fortunate to offer a wide spectrum of services to its trading area of 21,000 people.

Economic Growth & Opportunity
The continuous growth brings opportunity for all businesses and people looking for employment. There has been the arrival of some large retailers and also the emergence of more specialty and home-based businesses throughout the community.

Further injection into the economy comes from many retirees, people from the city who keep recreational property in the area, neighbouring First Nations, and many energy sector companies that operate in the area. There are sawmills doing lumber and value-added processes that provide steady employment for the area.

Tourism, camping, and recreational activities bring added economic boost with thousands of visitors in the area throughout the year. Agriculture is also a valued component of the economy. Farms have diversified and many operators have off-the-farm employment or small businesses.

Business in the Community
Local business owners know the importance of service in Rocky Mountain House. The friendly retail atmosphere helps maintain customer loyalty, which benefits the economy when a dollar circulates many times in a community and more people can prosper. Businesses also help the tax base and support many groups and local charities with their events. Businesses have also taken the initiative for improvements.

The Downtown Steering Committee continues to improve the customer’s experience while downtown through the beautification of main street and contributions to community events such as “Marketplace on Main.” The Walk of History is a definite feature in bringing customers downtown to enjoy the atmosphere.

Recreation

The immediate area is attractive to those interested in sports and outdoor pursuits. There is a multitude of quality recreational facilities with more planned in the area such as the Rocky to Nordegg Trail. The West Country offers the majestic mountain experience without the congestion of the national parks.

Sincerely yours,
Fred Nash, Mayor
