Fishing Locations West on Highway 11
  • Abraham Lake
    • Fishing is best at the mouth of the North Saskatchewan, Cline, and Tershishner, and best from August to freeze up. Use caution when boating due to submerged rock ledges, and violent winds. Fish near the shore.
    • Located along Highway 11 about 25 kilometers west of Nordegg.

  • Allstones Lake
    • A small high mountain lake that you can hike into.
    • The 10 kilometer trail begins where Highway 11 crosses Allstones Creek at Abraham Lake, about 35 kilometers west of Nordegg.

  • Baptiste River
    • Be sure to fish upstream of the Sunchild Reserve.
    • Travel 32 kilometers west from Rocky Mountain House on Highway 11, and then 10 kilometers north on the Sunchild Road. 

  • Bighorn River
    • Campground day use sites are at Crescent falls.
    • The Bighorn River Is a north Saskatchewan tributary. Crossed by Highway 11 and about 24 kilometers west of Nordegg.

  • Blackstone River
    • Campground located at Beaver Flats on the Chungo Road.
    • Crossed by the Forestry Trunk Road and about 22 kilometers north of Nordegg. The road parallels the river for about 10 kilometers, and then crosses where Chungo Creek enters.

  • Brewster Creek
    • Joins the Baptiste River at south boundary of Sunchild Reserve, northwest of Rocky Mountain House.

  • Brown Creek
    • A Blackstone River tributary. Crossed by Trunk Road and about 35 kilometers north of Nordegg Campground.
    • Blackstone catch and release regulations apply.

  • Chamber Creek
    • Crossed by Highway 11 and about 32 kilometers west of Rocky Mountain House.
    • Campground is one kilometer west of the bridge.

  • Chungo Creek
    • A Blackstone River tributary. Crossed by Trunk Road and about 32 kilometers north of Nordegg. 
    • Campgrounds are available. Blackstone catch and release regulations apply.

  • Cline River
    • Crossed by Highway 11 and about 50 kilometers west of Nordegg.
    • The Cline River enters Abraham Lake and is best if fished upstream above canyon, which is about a two hour hike from Highway 11.

  • Colt Creek
    • An Upper Nordegg Tributary. Travel about 13 kilometers north of Highway 11 on the Harlech Road (which leaves Highway 11 at the Shunda Creek Campground) then west on the oil roads.

  • Coral Lake
    • Located near headwaters of Coral Creek and north of Cline River. Requires a long, tough hike up the Coral Creek Valley with many creek crossings.
    • Trailhead located where Highway 11 crosses the Cline River, about 50 kilometers west of Nordegg.
    • Open August 1 to October 31.

  • Goldeye Lake
    • Travel 11 kilometers west of Nordegg on Highway 11, and then go two kilometers north.
    • Campgrounds are available. Electric boat motors only.

  • Harlech Pond
    • Located about seven kilometers east of Nordegg just south of Highway 11

  • Jackfish Lake
    • A small lake adjacent to Highway 11 about 60 kilometers west of Rocky Mountain House.
    • Campgrounds are available. The max boat speed is 12 km/h.

  • Lake of the Falls
    • To access this lake you have to do a tough 20 kilometer hike.
    • Trailhead located where Highway 11 crosses the Cline River, about 50 kilometers west of Nordegg.

  • Landslide Lake
    • About a 15 kilometer hike up Cline River and Entry Creek from the trailhead on Highway 11, about 50 kilometers west of Nordegg.

  • Lookout Creek
    • A Blackstone Tributary. Crossed by the Chungo Road about 14 kilometers upstream of the junction with the Trunk Road north of Nordegg.
    • Parallels the Chungo Road for several kkilometers before joining Blackstone River at Beaver Flats campground. Blackstone catch and release applies.

  • Nordegg Ponds (East and West)
    • The east pond is located about three kilometers north of Nordegg on the Forestry Trunk Road.
    • The wast pond is located about five kilometers north of Nordegg on the Forestry Trunk Road.

  • Nordegg River
    • Travel about 32 kilometers west of Rocky Mountain House on Highway 11 to the Sunchild Road, then 40 kilomers north.
    • Upstream and down are mostly wilderness. Open April 1 to October 31.

  • Obstruction Lakes
    • Do a tough two-day hike up Coral Creek from the Cline River trailhead on North Job Lake.

  • Rocky Children’s Pond
    • Located on the outskirts of Rocky Mountain House.
    • Turn left after the bridge heading west on Highway 11. No boats allowed. Children only.

  • Shunda Creek
    • Travel west on Highway 11 from Rocky Mountain House. The highway first crosses Shunda Creek about 16 kilometers east of Nordegg at the Harlech Campground.
    • It is crossed by five more bridges and access is plentiful. No motors allowed on pond at beaver dam day use site.

  • Shunda Lake
    • Travel two kilometers west of Nordegg on Highway 11 and then two kilometers southwest.
    • Campground is available. Electric motors only.

  • Twin Lakes
    • Travel seven kilometers on Highway 11 and one kilometer north on Highway 756, west of Rocky Mountain House.
    • Campground is available. Max boat speed is 12 km/h.
