Economic Development Strategic Plan
In November 2011, the Town Council approved the 2012-2015 Economic Development Strategic Plan to provide direction on Economic Development goals for Rocky Mountain House and the surrounding area. Stakeholder meetings were held in the drafting of this document, and many of the goals were developed from existing studies, such as:
  • The Business Vitality Initiative project
  • The Community Investment Readiness document
  • The Community Sustainability Initiative
  • The Town of Rocky Mountain House strategic plan

Goals
In theEconomic Development Strategic Plan plan, there are seven goals to be realized in the 2012-2015 period:
  1. Increase the availability of commercial and industrial land
  2. Encourage events and attractions
  3. Develop a mentorship program
  4. Develop a business attraction campaign to promote Rocky Mountain House
  5. Develop a unified regional economic develop action strategy (Clearwater County, RMH, Caroline)
  6. Improve tourism assets to enhance Rocky Mountain House as a destination
  7. Create a downtown to become a central point for the community

Updated Goals
Below are the updated goals as of January, 2013. Items of the 2012-2015 Economic Development Strategic Plan that were completed in 2012 include:
  • Goal 1
    • Complete an inventory of land available
    • Identify areas for future potential commercial and industrial land
    • Look at ways to entice private developers to develop
  • Goal 2
    • Council to give direction on what role the town plays in events and boosting or developing attractions in the area
    • Partnering with key stakeholders and organizations
    • Provide council the costs and benefits of doing events in our community
  • Goal 3
    • Creation of the Rural Alberta Business Centre (RABC)
  • Goal 4
    • New website being developed and designed
  • Goal 5
    • Identify a process to bring regional economic development topics to the table (Done through CGI process)
  • Goal 6
    • Facilitate existing and additional events that are tourism oriented (e.g., marketplace on Main Street)
  • Goal 7
    • Work with the downtown committee in developing storefront incentives (Storefront improvement program)
    • Acquire concept drawings for infrastructure improvements for possible upgrades to happen when paving is done in three to five years
    • Encourage businesses to use architectural guidelines for a theme
    • Downtown directional signage and way-finding program
