Keeping Dogs in Rocky Mountain House
There are a few important things to know if you are keeping dogs in the Town of Rocky Mountain House.
- The licensing and responsible ownership of dogs is governed by the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw.
- As stated in the Bylaw, there is a yearly license fee for every dog in Town limits which is three (3) months of age, or older. Upon paying the yearly license fee, the Town shall issue a tag with a number and year on it to the owner, and the tag must be securely attached to a collar worn by the dog at all times.
- Dog licenses may be purchased at the Town Office, 5116-50 Ave.
- Licenses must be purchased on or before January 31 in any year, or penalties may be issued.
- Violation tickets, with subsequent penalties, may be issued for contraventions to the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw.
Dogs at Large
Animal Control Officers will impound dogs found running at large in Town limits and make reasonable efforts to identify and contact the owner of the dog.
In the event that a dog is unidentified within 72 hours of impoundment, Officers are authorized to rehome or relocate the dog, per Legislation.
Identified dogs whose owners do not claim them are available for adoption after 10 days, per Legislation.
