Directions to Pine Grove Cemetery

Pine Grove Cemetery is a municipally operated resting place that provides a respectful and serene environment for families to honour and remember their loved ones. The cemetery offers a variety of interment options, including traditional burial plots and cremation spaces, while maintaining well-kept grounds. As a public cemetery, it is managed to ensure long-term care, accessibility and affordability for residents, with policies in place to preserve it for generations to come.

Management of Pine Grove Cemetery is regulated by Cemetery Bylaw 07/09V.

Purchasing a Plot or Niche

The purchaser may be an individual on their own behalf, the family of the deceased or a funeral home on the family's behalf.

2. Select available location. 
Administration staff will assist with identifying burial plots, cremation plots or columbarium niches available for purchase.

3. Complete Burial Deed Application.
The Burial Deed Application will be signed and sealed by Administration staff, creating a burial deed. A burial deed is an official record that grants the right to use a specific burial plot for interment. It is important to keep this document in a safe, accessible place.

4. Make applicable payment.
Plots and niches are charged for as per the Town's Fees, Rates and Charges Bylaw. A perpetual care fee is added to the purchase price of all burial plots, cremation plots or columbarium niches.

COLUMBARIUM

A columbarium is a structure designed to hold cremated remains, with individual niches that provide families a lasting and dignified place of remembrance.

  • One (1) set of cremated remains, includes plaque and initial opening/closing.

Double Niche
  • Two (2) sets of cremated remains, includes plaque and initial opening/closing.

PERPETUAL CARE

Perpetual care is the basic maintenance, in perpetuity and in a proper manner, of a cemetery, including landscaping and road maintenance.

Scheduling an Interment

To be completed by the family of the deceased or a funeral home on the family's behalf. 

1. Contact the Town of Rocky Mountain House.
Orders for Saturday, Sunday, holidays or winter burials must be made at least 72 hours before the burial is to take place.

2. Complete Burial Application & Permit form.
A Vital Statistics Burial Permit must be provided as part of applying for a Town of Rocky Mountain House burial permit.   

3. Make applicable payment.
Burial fees (a.k.a open/close fees) vary based on the season, age of the deceased, type of burial and whether the service occurs on a weekend, holiday or after regular hours. Rates are higher in winter and for burials scheduled outside of standard weekday hours. Rates are in accordance with the Town's Fee, Rates and Charges Bylaw.

For columbarium interments, the initial opening and closing is included with the purchase of a single or double niche. For a double niche, the second opening and closing has an additional service fee.

Installing a Plot Monument

To be completed by the monument company at the family of the deceased's request.

1.  Design the monument.
Monuments must not exceed the maximum dimensions as outlined in Cemetery Bylaw 17/09V. Consideration should be given to ensuring space for naming all burials in a plot. When cremains are placed in a plot where a body has been interred, names may be added to the monument or flat monuments may be placed at the foot of the plot marking the cremains. 

2. Complete Monument Permit Application.
Type, size and proof of monument required.

3. Make applicable payment.
A monument permit fee of $35.00 is required by the Town of Rocky Mountain House.

Installing a Niche Plaque

To be completed by the family of the deceased or a funeral home on the family's behalf.

1. Contact the Town of Rocky Mountain House to provide details for the plaque.

2. Administration staff will order and install the plaque.
No applicable fee as it is included with the purchase of a single or double niche.

Installing a Memorial Wall Plaque

An additional way to honour those placed in a columbarium, a memorial wall is a name plaque installed on the north or south face of the columbarium. To be completed by the family of the deceased or a funeral home on the family's behalf.
