Waste Reduction Strategy (Adopted by Council on March 17, 2020)

Town of Rocky Mountain House Eco Centre Design and Recommendations Report (Accepted by Council on Dec. 15, 2020)

The Town of Rocky Mountain House conducted a waste audit in the summer of 2019 to inform a Waste Reduction Strategy for the Town of Rocky Mountain House.

The audit found that of the waste that goes to landfill, 76 per cent by weight and volume is either compostable or recyclable:

Recommendations:

Sonnevera introduced several recommendations that would increase waste diversion, including a waste diversion assistance program for the industrial, commercial and institutions with a focus on cardboard diversion in particular.

Sonnevera also identified organics (compostable materials) as a way to maximize diversion from the landfill.

A subsequent Eco Centre study, that was accepted by Council on Dec. 15, 2020, which recommends safety and efficiency considerations for the Town's future waste diversion efforts, and an expanded list of accepted items.
